Winners of “Resilience Builder” seals in district and borough level races will be announced next week.
Resilience PAC has a two phase process for providing support to candidates - a “Resilience Builder” seal and an endorsement. In their responses, candidates were asked to demonstrate knowledge of the risks climate change poses in New York City and have strong positions on actions needed to mitigate these risks. Candidates were also asked to describe holistic solutions that simultaneously address social, ecological, and physical vulnerabilities.
Seventeen PAC members reviewed responses from 165 candidates and the Citywide campaigns with strong answers today received a Resilience PAC “seal” that can be shared on campaign materials, social media, and press indicating this advancement.
Citywide Candidates who receive a “seal” in Stage one will be invited to seek a full endorsement. The evaluation process will include an interview and Resilience PAC member review, and candidates will be invited to classes on resilient infrastructure and housing. With a full Resilience PAC endorsement, the campaign may receive support such as volunteer mobilization efforts for GOTV, financial contribution, press and social media support. While multiple candidates in each race may receive a “Resilience Builder” seal, only one will receive a full endorsement.
About Resilience PAC:
The New York City Panel on Climate Change projects that we will see three to six feet of sea level rise, and an increased frequency of heat waves, which, left unabated, will exacerbate inequity. The members of Resilience PAC believe that we must solve all these issues, to solve one. The PAC will achieve this by supporting candidates who commit to 1) Embed climate science and equity in all land use policies and capital planning, 2) Prioritize disinvested communities, and 3) Make government actions transparent and accountable. The organization’s full policy platform can be found here and below. And a list of the founding members can be found here.
