Shanequa Moore is a thought-provoking leader, visionary and advocate in New York City whose passion for serving impoverished children is evident in her extensive professional and personal history and her many community-oriented achievements.
Shanequa has always known her purpose in life, even at the early age of 14 years old, when she became a Caseworker Aide at the Family Support System and suddenly saw her life’s calling illuminating a career pathway ahead of her. Ever since this moment, she has been dedicated to creating opportunities in her community, lifting up young people out of poverty, and empowering local leaders to build a brighter future for the most disadvantaged families in their neighborhoods.
Shanequa launched I’RAISE Girls & Boys International Corporation in 2013 to directly respond to the urgent needs of minority youth in New York City. Her organization is dedicated to safeguarding youth, restoring the community from the inside out, and raising the quality of life for minority families. She has transformed the lives of more than 10,000 of our city’s most vulnerable youth. The success of so many kids can be attributed to this one individual, whose light shines brightly on every child and parent who have the meaningful opportunity of benefiting from Ms. Moore vision.
Shanequa’s passions include education, mental health, and civic engagement. She believes in the power of holistic wellness and promotes mental health in all facets of her work. She has been a vocal leader in the Black Lives Matter movement in the Bronx, participating in panels and community forums aimed at developing youth into civic leaders who will one day be able to change the systems that oppress so many in NYC. Since the onset of the pandemic, Shanequa Moore remained at the forefront of advocating for mental health services for young people in hardest hit communities, she designed a comprehensive mental health program for children & families and helped hundreds of children cope through trauma and loss during the pandemic.
Shanequa Moore’s visionary leadership is not only inspiring but also critical for children and parents alike in our community and citywide, as only a person with truly authentic passion and a deep understanding of the issues affecting our kids today is capable of building the next generation of problem solvers and civic change makers. She is a true civil servant who volunteers her time and is altruistic in every sense of the word.
Furthermore, her entrepreneurial spirit represents the varied range of her skills, as a businesswoman, educator, Non Profit CEO & Leader, Community Board 12 Board Member, Youth Vice President of the National Council of Negro Women, Board Member of the National Association of Social Workers NYC Chapter – she wears many hats in the community and does so with pride.
